sea inspired art

I am drawn to the sea, it intrigues me, it can be so calm and peaceful, but yet wild, unpredictable and powerful. I collect driftwood, glass and pottery from the shores and try to imagine where they originated from. I take photographs, I enjoy the sea and the waves whether they send me peace or aggression from the depths. I am inspired by the works of the sea and nature. I design my house in a unique and natural way with driftwood, I take it home with me to re live my experience and enjoy the calming atmosphere it creates there.

I am inspired by the sea, I use driftwood to create pieces which are truly unique and individual, some of my work is wild, rustic and abstract, some pieces are sanded to a smooth finish, most pieces are functional such as the clocks, mirrors, candlesticks and furniture, some pieces are purely for decoration. The only thing they have in common is the fact that each piece is unique and individual and there is no other like it in the entire world, it cannot be copied nor reproduced as not one piece of driftwood is ever the same and usually the shape, form or colour can inspire an idea or project, to recycle a piece of discarded wood and re create a functional, individual or artistic object is for me fascinating and rewarding, particularly when I see such mass produced furniture and objects used to decorate our homes nowadays.

It is of course no mean task to carry heavy wet wood along a long rocky beach on a wet cold winters day, even on a Summers day it can be quite hard work, then there is the process of cleaning, drying, sanding and preparing the wood before I can even begin to design it. However this is usually all forgotten when the end product is viewed and admired.

Some of the pieces displayed on my blog are actually sold maybe through Galleries or Art retail outlets, if anything is of interest to you please contact me for further information which I am happy to give with no obligation.
